At our small and cosy nursery, we use a play-based approach to enrich and help children to learn whilst have fun at the same time. We understand that every child is unique and we aim to ensure that we can help them reach their full potential. We hope you enjoy your tour, thank you for coming. Rocshelle Scallywags Manager
Scallywags nursery has been running for 19 years; being under our new management for 4 years. Since then, we have made endless improvements to ensure that every child receives the education and care that they deserve. We have done this through caring staff and a lovely setting that has allowed for us to pave the way in high-quality nursery care.
As a government funded nursery all of our attention is focused on ensuring the children and their families are happy. All children share access to a secure enclosed outdoor play area. The nursery currently supports a number of children who learn English as an additional language. The nursery receives funding for the provision of free early education for children aged three and four years.
Open: Mon to Fri - 8am - 6pm
Our food is provided to us by Zebedee's Lunch Box. A complete and comprehensive service to us including hot lunches, cold afternoon teas and an organic puree range.
They work closely with a paediatric dietitian to design the menus, which are analysed using specialist software to ensure they meet the specific dietary needs of nursery age children. Lunch and tea menus together now meet the Caroline Walker Trust daily nutritional guidelines for under 5s. This is a fantastic achievement and ensures that the children we cater for receive a low intake of salt, but the right levels of carbohydrates and nutrients.
We also provide a digital temperature probe in order that the temperature of our hot lunches can be taken at time of serving and temperature sheets for readings to be recorded. We cater for most allergies and food intolerances, as well as cultural diets.
We supply all of our nurseries with a contents menu which lists all ingredients contained within each dish, an easy reference allergy guide for our main menus and a display poster detailing our food serving guidelines.
The Scallywags philosophy
To provide both a secure and loving environment for children to develop their confidence and independence. To give the children a balanced curriculum and therefore develop socially, intellectually, emotionally and physically. To encourage parents involvement; as we know you want to ensure your child learns from you, too. Use a warm, caring approach to all children so that they feel comfortable and confident in themselves. Operate an equal opportunities policy to make sure that children feel accepted regardless of gender, race, religion or unfortunate circumstances. Encourage our children to learn and explore independently, with supervision.
